Into the Deep
It’s a mitten pattern this time!
Kristine from A Verb For Keeping Warm had a mitten knitting contest recently. (If you have access to ravelry, you can vote for a winner until November 9th.) This contest (Smitten Mitten) had 4 categories — design your own mitten, knit a mitten from an existing pattern, design your own arm warmer/mitt, knit an arm warmer/mitt from an existing pattern. The one caveat was that at least 50% of the fiber used had to be from AVFKW. How could I resist entering? Hence the birth of the Into the Deep mittens.
These mittens are knit from a single skein of AVFKW Organic Merino Worsted in the Magic Bean colorway. Let me tell you, the photos don’t do the color justice. It is awesome! The color and the flow of the pattern made me think of ocean currents, sunlight on water, and kelp forests swaying.
The pattern is written up in 3 sizes. The stitch motifs are both charted and written out in text. The mittens are knit in a dense gauge to be toasty warm on cold days, but they are still a quick knit.
The pattern is available as a downloadable pdf. I hope you enjoy knitting these mittens as much as I did!
