Butterflies and Berries
Way back when, I designed the Butterflies and Berries Socks for theKnitter.com’s sock club. The original socks were knit in Mountain Colors Bearfoot and were one of my earliest sock designs. Recently, I have been going through old designs like this, adding sizes, cleaning up the patterns, and generally giving them a face lift. My awesome friend Amy has been helping me knit new samples for updated photographs.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, she finished some new Butterflies and Berries Socks (we’ll call them version 2.0). They are worked in a new gauge — knit in the much lighter Malabrigo Sock — and I think the pattern has been nicely improved. With the help of my equally awesome tech editor Sharon, I am now able to roll out the new and improved pattern for you all.
The pattern starts with a fancy rib, then moves onto a slipped stitch leg pattern (perfect for variegated yarns), and ends in a simple lace pattern. These are great socks for the newer sock knitter, but they have enough going on to keep the more experienced knitter interested.
Hope you find this new version a fun summertime knitting treat!
